WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) - Wrightsville Beach Police say a suspect they had been trying to identify for stealing and vandalism has turned himself in.

Ryan Loerch, who's accused of being caught on camera stealing from a town building, met with police Wednesday morning, along with his attorney, a WBP official said.

According to Wrightsville Beach Police Chief Dan House, the suspect broke into Wrightsville Beach's Parks and Recreation building around 3:20 Sunday morning. House said the suspect sprayed a fire extinguisher that he pulled from the wall inside the building.

Loerch was arrested, taken before a magistrate and given an unsecured bond. He's been charged with breaking and entering a town building, misuse of a portable fire extinguisher and property damage and larceny of a fire extinguisher.

Then, he got into the lobby of the public safety building. Police say on surveillance video, he can be seen walking in and stealing the 10 pound fire extinguisher, all while smoking a cigarette.

Chief House said the lobby to the police department is kept open because there is a defibrillator and fire extinguisher there, and they want those who use the park to have access to those items in the event of an emergency.
