Detectives said a man suspected of having sex with animals was arrested after DNA evidence linked him to the crime.
The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office reported Mario Vasconcelos, 34, of Larose, was arrested Saturday. He faces multiple counts of crimes against nature and other charges. Sheriff Craig Webre said during questioning, Vasconcelos admitting to copulating with livestock, including a donkey and a goat, on four occasions.
Investigators said they first started looking into the case in June after a landowner in Cut Off reported someone was possibly trespassing on his property. Detectives said they determined a man had gone inside a barn and "engaged in crimes against nature (unnatural carnal copulation) with livestock."
They added DNA evidence was collected and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Techs reported the sample matched Vasconcelos. Deputies said they discovered there was a warrant for his arrest for contempt of court from a domestic abuse case in 2011.
Detectives said Vasconcelos was taken into custody, questioned and arrested. He was booked on the following charges:
Crimes against nature (4 counts)
His bond was set at $37,500. He is also being held for US Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
