NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – News of a Maryland company canceling organized events and filing for bankruptcy has traveled south to the Port City.
Local media reported in early August that Hero Rush, a business that organized obstacle course races along the east coast, planned to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
Ashley Houck, of Wilmington, learned Monday morning what that meant for the October race he registered for in Charlotte. A message in his inbox said the race was canceled.
"That's not what I wanted to wake up to today," he said. "Everything's been canceled and I'm not being refunded for the registration fees."
The Hero Rush website no longer works, so Houck said he's not sure where to get any answers.
Houck said the site he used to register for the race will send him a partial refund, but it's still about $70 short.
The Hero Rush was going to be the first obstacle course race for Houck and his wife, and he said he'll consider a local event when he's ready to give it another try.
