WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) – Consider this a warning…officers in Wrightsville Beach arrested a young man this weekend in connection to stealing keys from beachgoers and using them to break into their vehicle.

According to police, officers arrested Justin Lynch, of Conover, near Johnnie Mercer's Pier Sunday evening around 5:30.

Cpt. Burdette with the Wrightsville Beach Police Department said Lynch is accused of taking keys from someone's belongings on the beach to access the victim's vehicle.

Lynch was charged with breaking and entering into a motor vehicle, larceny, financial card theft and resisting an officer.

According to Burdette, Lynch was not working alone, so officers are still investigating the crime.

Make sure to keep an eye on your belongings when you're at the beach. It's easy for someone to walk up to your things while you dip your toes in the water to cool off.
