BOILING SPRING LAKES, NC (WECT) – The Boiling Spring Lakes Board of Commissioners voted Saturday not to lower the water level of Spring Lake.

This vote came at a public workshop held at the city hall.

Earlier this summer, families living near the lake thought the water level was too low, and then when the level went up, other residents became concerned that water was going to ruin their properties.  Today the worried residents informed the commissioners of their concerns.

After listening to the residents, the commissioners debated and voted against a motion to lower the water level by two inches.  They said they thought heavy rainfall in the recent weeks could account for the higher water levels of the lake.

Ray Wierschem lives along Spring Lake.  He spoke publicly at the meeting and wanted the lake level to be lowered.

"You can blame Mother Nature, but also, all of us humans should have the conscious to do the proper thing for the taxpayers and for our neighbors," said Wierschem.

The board said they will continue to monitor the water level of Spring Lake closely in the coming weeks.
