School comes up with unique way to remember classmate

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

An East Nashville elementary school came up with a different way to say goodbye to a friend.

Jaliah Williamsbey, a third-grader, died in a car crash in West Tennessee last weekend.

Students and staff at Inglewood Elementary came up with a unique way to honor Williamsbey.

Sometimes the best way to think about the unthinkable lies in doing the unexpected.

When Dena O'Neal heard about Williamsbey's death, she knew it would shake students too young to understand.

The crash happened on Sunday on Interstate 40 near Jackson.

It killed the third-grader along with her recently married parents, Thomas Davis and Kamillia Ward.

Rather than sit and talk, on Friday, students jumped.

Third- and fourth-graders took turns jumping in Williamsbey's memory.

Stratford High students volunteered to help, and the school's counselors sat ready for an unlikely teachable moment in the midst of tragedy.

As for the crash itself, the family's car was the only one involved. The car left the interstate, hit several trees and caught fire.

Williamsbey's two younger brothers wound up in the hospital.

The cause of the crash remains unclear.
