WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Despite scouting in Hollywood East, it looks like Angelina Jolie's new picture, Unbroken, is heading to Australia instead.
Sources say location scouts for Unbroken visited Wilmington several times. They also looked at locations in Hawaii.
Several Australian media outlets are reporting that the movie will film in Sydney and the Gold Coast. Jolie was spotted in the country earlier this month.
Angelina Jolie is directing and producing the film, based on the New York Times bestselling book Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption.
The book was written by Laura Hillenbrand, who also penned Seabiscuit: An American Legend.
Unbroken tells the true story of Olympian and war hero Louis Zamperini who, along with two other crewmen, survived in a raft for 47 days after a plane crash in WWII. The group was captured by the Japanese and sent to a prisoner of war camp.
According to a release from Universal Pictures, the movie will be released in theaters on December 25, 2014.
