HAMPSTEAD, NC (WECT) – John Michael Paulson was arrested and charged Wednesday night after crashing his car into Hampstead Furniture, according to Highway Patrol troopers.
Dispatch officials said the vehicle collided with another car before hitting the store, just before 11:00 p.m.
Two people were taken to the hospital, and one has since been released.
Eyewitnesses said the store is badly damaged, but no word on how much it will cost to repair it.
According to jail records, Paulson was charged with DWI, reckless driving to endanger and driving without a license.
A report from the Highway Patrol shows Paulson was in another accident two weeks prior.
According to the report, Paulson was driving on US 17 when his vehicle ran off the road and hit a traffic signal pole.
The pole fell and another vehicle behind Paulson slammed into it. The trooper's report says alcohol was a contributing factor in the accident.
Paulson is expected to be in court in September for charges related to the accident in July.
