Justin Smith, who worked as a freelance reporter and photographer for WECT while in high school and college, returned to the station with a unique perspective after serving in several public-affairs roles in Southeastern North Carolina.
As economic development director in Columbus County, he attracted companies to the county's industrial park and partnered with Brunswick County officials to develop an innovative logistics park that straddles the county line along Highway 74/76. In 2010, he gained an insider's view of politics in the region when he worked as a contractor on Congressman Mike McIntyre's re-election campaign. Most recently, Justin served as director of marketing and public relations at Southeastern Community College in Columbus County.
Justin earned a bachelor's degree in journalism and mass communication from UNC-Chapel Hill and a master's degree in public administration from UNC-Wilmington.
