Firefighters hold a special place in my heart. Maybe it's because my father belonged to a volunteer fire department, and I spent some time as a volunteer firefighter as well. Firemen have been part of the fabric of America for as long as this country has existed.
It's no secret that firefighting is one of our most dangerous occupations. And sadly, loss of life in the line of duty is inevitable. There's been a group of dedicated individuals in Wilmington working hard to make sure these fallen heroes are memorized and honored.
The memorial is being built by the fire station at Empie Park. It is a beautiful design that will serve as a place of refection and respect for all firefighters.
They've come very close to their goal. But they need a little help to make it to the finish line. Inscribed pavers will fill the walkway at the memorial. You can show your thanks and support by sponsoring a paver for a very reasonable donation.
These public servants made the ultimate sacrifice. Let's make sure they receive the honor they deserve.
That's my turn. Now it's your turn…to help, I hope. To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
