COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Jerry Moore, Jr., who was accused of fatally shooting his cousin at a nightclub in Columbus County over Easter weekend in 2011, was found guilty of first degree murder in court Friday.
Moore was sentenced to life without parole.
Prosecutors finished their case Thursday, while defense attorneys also wrapped up their case Thursday afternoon.
According to police, Jerry Moore Jr. is accused of killing Odell Hampton at The Hideaway in Bolton. Authorities say the two started arguing and Moore allegedly shot Hampton several times.
Irise Hampton, Odell's mother, told WECT in 2011 her son and Moore graduated high school together and were always on the same sports teams.
In 2011, the Bolton police chief said the shooting was the 37th incident at the nightclub in three years. The Hideaway has since been shut down.
At the time, this incident was believed to be the first murder in Bolton in nearly a decade.
