New Mixed Martial Arts and fitness facility opens in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Alliance Fitness and World Champion Training Center is a new facility in Wilmington designed to teach discipline and technique for competitors and practitioners of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

To get a feel for the Jiu-Jitsu technique, Alliance will hold a grand opening free jiu-jitsu seminar Saturday, August 3, 2013. The seminar will run from 10 a.m. through noon and will feature world champions Bruno Malfacine and Lucas Lepri. Food and gift giveaways will follow the seminar.

Alliance is one of the most prominent Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu associations in the world and the current defending World team champion.

Alliance won back-to-back titles at the World Championships in 1998 and 1999, as well as more recently in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013. The association also won all major competitions in 2010: European Championship, Pan American Championship, and the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship.

"Not only do we teach champion training, but we offer fitness opportunities for people of all ages and sizes-- we also plan to approach schools in New Hanover County with the hopes of starting a self-defense program. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is all about showing the little guy he can defend himself against anyone. Also, we teach discipline, patience and how to choose your battles," said head instructor Jonathan Uzcategui.

Alliance NC is a 5,000 square foot facility that features 2,000 feet of custom Zebra mats. Zebra Mats has brought over 15 years of designing custom, championship-grade martial arts mats to Alliance NC. With six custom, single-color rings, our students are able to get the feeling of competing at the tournament level without leaving the comfort of their home gym.
