The sentencing of Ariel Castro, the verdict in the Bradley Manning case and new accusations of A-Rod doping are some of the stories that made headlines this week. The sentencing of Ariel Castro, the verdict in the Bradley Manning case and new accusations of A-Rod doping are some of the stories that made headlines this week.

(RNN) - Ariel Castro pleaded guilty to 937 charges and was sentenced to life plus 1,000 years in prison for kidnapping and holding captive three Cleveland-area women for 10 years.

On Thursday, Castro pleaded guilty to charges that included murder, kidnapping and rape in order to have the death penalty taken off the table. Michelle Knight, one of the victims, made a statement in person during the sentencing.

Bradley Manning, accused of leaking classified information, was found not guilty of aiding the enemy but guilty of violating the Espionage Act. Manning has been in custody for three years and faces up to a maximum 136 years in prison.

New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez is facing new accusations of using performance-enhancing drugs. He and Major League Baseball are reportedly working out a suspension deal, according to ESPN and CNN.

     The Coast Guard suspended the search for a missing man in Currituck Sound, North Carolina, at 9:45 p.m. Saturday.   The Coast Guard stated in a release that they began searching when Sector North Carolina watchstanders in Wilmington were notified at about 1:05 p.m. that a 45-year-old man went missing while tubing behind a pontoon boat in Currituck Sound in the vicinity of Duck, North Carolina.
