SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) – Town leaders in Southport are working on a new way to restore an old building.
They met Monday night to talk about the old gym on Lord Street, formerly used as part of the Brunswick Training School in the 1960s.
Plans now call for a closer look at the structure – evaluating the costs of refurbishing the building.
If it is structurally sound, town leaders plan to use the building for recreational services and civic events.
Next Tuesday, a group that includes an architect and several alumni members will inspect the building and compare its features to the current community center in Southport which is half the size.
