WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Officers with the Wilmington Police Department have charged 22-year-old Shatiqua Bowser, of Leland, with a hit-and-run accident that happened around 4 a.m. Monday in the Cypress Grove Apartment community.

According to police, Bowser dropped her cell phone in the car and when she leaned over to pick it up, she hit the gas pedal and struck the building.

Police found the black PT Cruiser they believe was involved in the hit-and-run in the parking lot of the apartment complex. Police say they do not know why she left the scene.

The crash caused the power to go out in four units, but no one was injured.

Bowser was cited by police and released. There is no information, at this time, on the cost of the accident.

The American Red Cross is providing temporary lodging and food for the four families affected by the crash.
