WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Officers with the Wilmington Police Department arrested and charged two women for an armed robbery during what they're calling a "Craigslist deal gone bad."

According to police, Teresa Diane Cobbs, 43, and Tamekia Rashelle Smith, 29, stole a puppy from its owner.

Detectives said a family set up a sale using Craiglist.org for a Pomeranian puppy. The two groups met earlier this week to pay a deposit on the dog, according to police.

They met again Sunday in the shopping center at the intersection of Independence Boulevard and Carolina Beach Road, but the buyers brought a knife instead of cash.

According to police, one of the suspects was holding the puppy when she got in the vehicle. They say the suspects pulled out a knife and drove away towards Carolina Beach Road when the victim approached the vehicle.

Carissa Collins, one of the dog's owners, wrote down the license plate number when the suspects drove off with the dog.

Collins said the women were arrested and charged less than two hours later. She decided that she is going to keep the puppy instead of selling it.
