LONDON (RNN) – Two days after the birth of the royal baby, the world finally knows his name.
Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, have named their son George Alexander Louis, according to Clarence House, the Prince of Wales official Twitter.
The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge. He is third in line to the British throne, behind his grandfather, Charles, and his father.
Queen Elizabeth II arrived at Kensington Palace Wednesday to see her great-grandson for the first time.
In the baby boy's first public appearance Tuesday, Prince William admitted the couple was still working on what to call the young prince.
He and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, introduced the infant to the world outside St. Mary's Hospital, with all in high spirits.
"Well, he's got a good pair of lungs on him that's for sure," William admitted.
"[It's] very emotional and such a special time," Catherine said. "I think any parent having probably – know what this feeling feels like."
With the newborn in a car seat, strapped in by William, the new family of three rode away in a black Range Rover, William at the wheel driving.
Earlier Tuesday, Prince Charles, his wife Camilla, and Kate Middleton's parents stopped by to visit their grandchild and heir to the throne of England.
Baby boy Cambridge was born at 4:24 p.m. London time Monday, weighing in at 8 pounds, 6 ounces. The child was born in the same wing where his father William was born 31 years earlier.
Prince Charles released a statement saying they were "overjoyed" at the arrival of his first grandchild.
"Grandparenthood is a unique moment in anyone's life, as countless kind people have told me in recent months, so I am enormously proud and happy to be a grandfather for the first time," the statement read.
The baby's birth was announced on Twitter as well as a birth announcement posted on an easel posted in front of Buckingham Palace Monday.
A town crier - harkening back to a time before social media - rang a bell and yelled the announcement, ending with "God save the Queen!"
