WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Former UNCW basketball standout Brett Blizzard will represent North Carolina in the Basketball Alumni Legends League showcase event in two weeks.
According to UNCW, Blizzard will compete with other NC collegiate standouts in the showcase event August 1 at George Washington University's Charles E. Smith Center.
"It will be great to play against quality competition," said Blizzard, who owns and operates Blizzard Athletics, a player development facility in Wilmington. "A lot of fans don't have an opportunity to see their favorite players after leaving college. They'll be able to see how they've developed in their careers."
Former UNC Chapel Hill great Phil Ford will coach the NC team which includes players such as Justin Gray from Wake Forest and Scott May and Rayshawn Terry, both of UNC.
Blizzard holds the title for the all-time leading scorer for UNCW and lead the Seahawks to NCAA appearances in 2000, 2002 and 2003.
Blizzard was most recently on the 2013 roster for the Wilmington Sea Dawgs. He had made an appearance in the Euro Challenge FIBA Championship in 2009, which was his last season of competitive basketball.
In his seven years of playing professionally Blizzard played in two NBA Summer Leagues before heading to Europe where he appeared in three Italian Cup finals.
He opened Blizzard Athletics in 2010.
