BURGAW, NC (WECT) - According to Pender County Dispatch, a car crashed into power pole around 2:00 Monday morning on Hwy 53 near Maple Hill.
Power lines were on the road way causing the road to close for an hour.
According to Trooper Richard Hendrickson, the driver of the white Mazda was traveling east on Hwy 53 heading towards Camp Lejeune. One marine was in the car along with another couple.
Driver told Troopers he swerved off the road to avoid an armadillo and ran into a power pole.
Trooper Hendrickson believed the driver feel asleep at the wheel and swerved to the left and struck the power pole.
The road is back open and the power pole is restored.
No one was hurt in the accident and the driver is charged with reckless driving.
Trooper Gould is investigating the accident.
