BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - An alligator was spotted Wednesday on a beach in Oak Island.
Natalie Szpyrka, a 12-year-old girl from Pennsylvania, who is on vacation this week at Oak Island, snapped these photos of the gator.
"I was just going into the water and a lady came up and said, 'you better get out, there's an alligator coming right for you," said Szpyrka.
She was swimming in the ocean near public access 70, when a nearby jogger alerted her of a gator in the water.
Natalie ran out of the water and grabbed her cell phone to snap pictures.
Shortly after, Oak Island Animal Control and Oak Island Police responded to the call to try to trap the beast. The gator swam back out to sea after officials weren't able to trap him.
"At first it looked like a log, but then it had eyes," said Szpyrka. "It was really scary! It was crazy. I just hope I don't see another alligator in the ocean."
Officials estimate the gator is six feet long and has spent a lot of time between Oak Island and Caswell Beach.
Authorities say there were reports of another alligator spotted about 12 blocks away. They think there may be more than one gator on the loose.
If you see the gator, you're asked to contact Oak Island Police right away.
