Volunteers give people fighting cancer the 'ride of their lives'
WILMINGTON,NC (WECT)- If you or anyone you know has ever heard the words "You have cancer," you know how devastating that news is.
The reality is that on top of a cancer diagnosis, there are people in the Cape Fear area who cannot get to their potentially life-saving cancer treatments.
So, the American Cancer Society is bringing a lifesaving program to cancer patients in New Hanover, Columbus, Pender and Brunswick Counties.
"Road to Recovery" will give patients the "ride of their lives" at no cost. A dozen newly trained volunteer drivers jumped on board, committing to making this effort grow and become strong. Road to Recovery volunteers provide transportation for cancer patients to and from their treatments. The volunteers who drive for this program provide a crucial service to patients whose families and friends cannot drive them to every treatment. If you need a ride to and from treatment, please dial 1.800.227.2345 .
