Social media erupts after 'Rolling Stone' features Boston bombing suspect on cover

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Rolling Stone magazine is featuring Boston Marathon Bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev on the front cover of its latest issue and it's caused an uproar in the social media world.

The caption on the magazine's cover reads, "The Bomber: How a popular, promising student was failed by his family, fell into radical Islam and became a monster."

The magazine's cover was posted to the CBS 3 Springfield Facebook page Tuesday night and many viewers expressed some very passionate thoughts.

"I think Rolling Stone has just lost a lot of readers," CBS 3 viewer, Steve Clines commented.

"Why celebritize a terrorist? What about the victims' families? Unbelievable," said viewer Lynn Penza.

While most viewers expressed anger over the magazine's cover, an equal reaction was confusion.

"It's suppose to be about music, not sociopaths," viewer Sue Calistro commented on the magazine cover that is most known for featuring popular music artist and celebrities.

Rolling Stone says contributing editor Janet Reitman spent two months investigating the story, speaking to dozens of people who know him.

Though this isn't a first controversial post for Rolling Stone.

The Huffington Post says the magazine featured a photo of serial killer Charles Mansion on its June 1970 cover.

Tsarnaev is facing 30 federal counts in connection to the bombings. Last week he pleaded not guilty.
