CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) – After weeks of public requests, the Town of Carolina Beach has confirmed they have fired one police officer and demoted another.

According to officials, Sgt. Chris Chafin was fired from the town July 3, 2013 and Captain Anthony Marcucilli was demoted, though Carolina Beach would not disclose which rank he now holds.

Chafin was recently suspended from the police department following an accident in a police vehicle while he was off-duty.

According to a Highway Patrol Crash report, Chafin was driving at night in Pender County last month when a deer ran in front of his police car.

Chafin says ran off the road in an attempt to avoid the deer and lost control when he tried to get back on to the road.

The vehicle was towed to the Carolina Beach lot with damage to the undercarriage of the car.

Though the town will confirm Chafin was fired earlier this month, officials have not yet released the specific reasons for his termination from the town.

Captain Marcucilli was demoted for disciplinary reasons on July 5. Again, town officials would not comment on what the reasons were for the demotion.
