Name of woman killed in July 4 boating crash released

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Officials have released the name of the victim who died as a result of a fatal boat collision that happened on the Northeast Cape Fear River July 4.

Jennifer Lee Faircloth, 37, was killed after two boats hit each other head-on near 6800 Olde Bridge Site Road in Pender County, according to a spokesperson for the district attorney.

Additionally, another person on the same boat as Faircloth was seriously injured, but no one on the other vessel was hurt.

Officials have not said if alcohol was involved, nor have they clarified how the two boats crashed. According to a call into the Pender County 911 Communications Center, two boats hit each other causing one to turn upside and sending people into the water.

The NC Wildlife Resources Commission is continuing to investigate, and no charges have been issued thus far.
