Today's topic has nothing to do with abortion and everything to do with the way our lawmakers are taking care of the people's business in Raleigh. So, we'll not be having the abortion debate this week. But I need to talk about it just to get at the heart of what's really bugging me.
In recent days, state senators decided to make a late move to set new rules on abortions in North Carolina. The debate is a worthy one, but the process has been underhanded, and quite frankly, embarrassing.
Our senators decided to add the new rules to a bill about banning the use of foreign laws in North Carolina Courts. That bill has absolutely nothing to do with abortion. This move is seen as a backroom deal done in the waning moments while the opposition isn't paying attention.
I've been fairly critical of this assembly all year and this is yet another reason of why they deserve even more criticism.
If we're going to get good and meaningful legislation, our best chance is to do it the right way. Let there be hearings. Air out the differences. Debate. Then legislate. Do the public's business in public. That's the way it's supposed to be done.
That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Thank you so much for keeping us updated on some of the ridiculous and unnecessary political maneuvering going on in Raleigh. Our State is going backward-not forward. Keep up your good work, please.
