WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The latest show to hit TheatreNOW is serving up some country food and country tunes.
It's called Country Cookin' with the Good Ol' Boys.
A bluegrass band of local musicians serenades the audience as guests eat a three-course country dinner of items like country fried steak and fried catfish.
In between songs, the cast tickles the audience's funny bones, just like an episode of that country classic Hee Haw.
"There's a couple of laughs thrown in there," said writer and director Zach Hanner. "We've got some of your classic gags and we've got some new material. But if you ever liked those old kind of shows, those variety shows, that's what we're trying to put on here."
Hanner said it took quite some time to get this show on its feet.
"Well, you know how musicians are. It took me about four years to get them to show up for a rehearsal, and then as they say in Hollywood, the show was in development for awhile. Well, it was just a matter of coming up with the right venue, the right place and TheatreNOW was available."
And the wait was worth it for some family-friendly entertainment.
"Folks want to enjoy a good old family type show," said Hanner. "There's nothing naughty or untoward here."
