From The North Carolina Department of Transportation:
The N.C. Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting on Thursday, July 25, regarding the proposed bridge replacement of the bridge on North 3rd Street in Wilmington. The meeting will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Wilmington City Council Chambers, located at 102 North 3rd Street in Wilmington.
Citizens may stop by at their convenience; there will not be a formal presentation.
The purpose of the project is to replace the bridge, which is considered structurally deficient. This means it is safe, but needs to be replaced to meet current and future traffic demands. The new bridge will include four 11-foot lanes with a 2.5-foot curb and gutter on the outside lanes to accommodate bicyclists, a 16-foot center turn lane and 8.5-foot sidewalks.
During the bridge replacement, traffic will be maintained offsite, using Davis Street to Fourth Street to Red Cross Street. Construction is expected to last up to 12 months, and is scheduled to begin in May 2015.
NCDOT representatives will display maps and be available to answer questions and receive comments. Public input will be taken into consideration as work on the project develops.
