WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) –A former city council member approached the council this evening to ask for help in a Wilmington neighborhood.
Residents of the Love Grove community were trapped after a train recently derailed, blocking the only entrance and exit to homes. There's only one way in and out of the love grove community and Ron Sparks says he has the plan to change that.
Sparks, an engineer by profession, says it would take about 3.4 million dollars to build a bridge - giving a new option for the families in the neighborhood.
Dozens of those people stood together at tonight's meeting.
Sparks says there's money out there, city council members just need to find it.
Council member Laura Padgett suggested the city work with New Hanover County and CSXto consider sharing the cost of this project.
