WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Your First Alert Weather Team is monitoring Tropical Depression Gabrielle.
LATEST ON TROPICAL DEPRESSION GABRIELLE: As of 11 am Thursday, Tropical Depression Gabrielle been downgraded from Tropical Storm status. It is moving to the northwest near 8 mph. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph.
The storm is showing signs of disorganization - and is not expected to regain Tropical Storm strength in the coming days as it drifts north over the Atlantic. Heavy rain continues to fall on Puerto Rico.
TRACK FORECAST: Gabrielle is forecasted to continue on a northwesterly track through Thursday night and then turn toward the north-northwest on Friday.
By Thursday morning, Gabrielle brought heavy rains to Puerto Rico and nearby islands. The storm's maximum sustained winds were near 40 mph with slight strengthening doubtful over the next two days.
The forecasted track, at this time, keeps it away from southeastern North Carolina.
