WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Former Wilmington city council
member Ron Sparks is trying to convince leaders to build another entrance to
the Love Grove Community.
Last month, a train
derailment blocked residents in the community for hours. Six cars of the
CSX train jumped the tracks around 5:00 a.m. Crews worked all day and into the
night before the train cars were back on track and residents could come or go
from the community.
Residents in the Love Grove Community said they've been
asking city officials for another access to the neighborhood for years.
While Sparks was on city council, he said people would
constantly come up to them asking for another way in and out.
Now, Sparks plans to present council members Tuesday night
with a plan to make that happen. He will explain the estimated cost of a second
access point and how the city can pay for it.
The meeting starts Tuesday night at 6:30. Stay with WECT for
