WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A major power outage in New Hanover County caused traffic headaches Tuesday just before lunchtime.
According to Duke Energy Progress, an issue with the transmission system caused nearly 34,000 customers to lose power.
Traffic lights were out across the county, including Wrightsville Beach, Monkey Junction, Gordon Road and Market Street.
Officials with Duke Energy Progress said they were able to create a temporary fix to restore power around 11:30 Tuesday morning.
Crews will continue working on the transmission system for a permanent fix over the next few hours. Duke Energy Progress said customers could experience brief outages during the repairs.
