WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The City of Wilmington plans to start working on a new branding initiative led by UNCW.
Roger Johnson, Special Assistant to the Wilmington City Manager, said the plan is to select a specific brand for the region and use it to support economic development.
Johnson said the initiative is still in its early stages as support is still being gathered.
He said a UNCW team will collect information related to what the region's official brand should be and will hopefully develop a unique concept like other places across the country have.
"If you think about other areas such as Napa Valley, the Research Triangle Park, Nashville- all of those folks are known for something specific that serves as both a draw for tourism as well as a driver for economic development," said Johnson.
Johnson said the team hopes to have an official brand for the Wilmington area by next June.
