WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The Wilmington Police Department had to call the bomb squad during the recent Fourth of July weekend to check one of their own vehicles, according to a WPD spokesperson.
Saturday, officers were out on foot, patrolling in the 400 block of South 10th Street. When they returned, they found fireworks on the trunk of the car and near the unopened gas cap of the cruiser.
The bomb squad came out to clear the fireworks. No damage was reported to the vehicle.
The case is being investigated as a misuse of explosives.
