WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Wilmington city leaders are considering a proposal to rezone more than 300 acres of land for new development.
Contractors from Cameron Management are seeking approval from the city to rezone their property located at 3151 S. 17th Street near the Cameron Art Museum.
Currently, that area is zoned strictly for single family residential, plan development, and community business.
Developers are asking for that to change to multi-family medium residential, regional business, office, institutional and community business for growth of that area.
Developers say the goal is to rezone the property so that it falls in line with the rest of the surrounding area as part of the city's long term land use plan.
City council will discuss this issue at its meeting on Tuesday night.
If approved, developers from Cameron management say they plan to expand the property for more residential and commercial use.
Hill Rodgers from the Cameron Management Group says there is a high demand for more residential development because of the rapid growth of Wilmington.
