Sharks fall one run short of Pilots

Wilmington Sharks Press Release

Wilmington, N.C. – The Wilmington Sharks (1-3, 15-16) came up just short in a close ball game against the Peninsula Pilots (5-0, 19-13) 3-2 on Saturday night.

The Sharks out hit Pilots 8 to 3 and the pitching was good for the Sharks, but a couple costly errors help put runs on the board for the Pilots. Justin Bhatti was the winning for the Pilots as he tossed innings and gave up one run on four hits and improved his record to 4-0 and Ryan Cook picked up his fifth save.

The Sharks got going in the bottom of the fourth inning on a Dylan Bosheers blooper down the right field line that scored Tyler Slaton to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead. The Pilots took the lead in the top of the fifth inning on bunt off the bat of Matt Dickason that was thrown away from pitcher Beau Dees that allowed Alex Close to score from first. Dickason then scored on a fround out to right side of the bat of Josh Silver to give the Pilots a 2-1 lead.

The Pilots picked up one more on a ground ball to Dylan Bosheers that he threw away into right field that allowed Connor Meyers to score to give the Pilots a 3-1 lead. The Sharks got a run back in the bottom of the eighth on a wild pitch that scored Cody Dolan, but were unable to tie up the game and the Pilots held on for the victory.

Zach MacAneney and Tyler Slaton each picked up two hits for the Sharks. For the Pilots Zach Lopes went 2-3 at the plate. The Sharks return back to action on Tuesday night at home as they take on the Florence RedWolves with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
