WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Former Hoggard Vikings Connor and Casey Barth returned home Saturday, hosting their first youth kicking clinic.
Over 70 kids from around the area attended the camp. Those in attendance got the chance to receive thorough instruction from the brothers and a number of current and former Viking players.
Casey, Chapel Hill's all time record holder for made field goals, a record previously held by his older brother, was excited for the chance to team up with Connor to pass on lessons they've learned on and off the field.
"It gives us the opportunity to give back to the community that gave so much to us and it's really nice to do it together," said the younger Barth. "We can share the information we learned over the years and kind of teach the kids and be role models."
Connor, now kicking in the NFL for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, realizes opportunity he has to be that role model.
"I never got a chance to do that when I was younger," said Barth. "I didn't have any NFL guys to look up to so to be able to come out here and spend some time with the kids and see them and see them grow, is what it's all about."
Both Connor and Casey plan to making the kicking camp an annual tradition in their hometown.
"I hope this is many to come and to help these kids reach their dreams and maybe be kickers one day," Connor added.
On August 23, Connor will head back down to Tampa to start training camp with the Buccaneers.
Casey was signed by the Atlanta Falcons, but was released shortly after. He is still working out, hoping for a try out, and waiting by the phone for another chance to join his older brother in the NFL.
