Checkpoints lead to 66 charges

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Law enforcement DWI checkpoints resulted in 66 charges filed Friday.

The Wilmington Police Department with the help of six other law enforcement agencies conducted a DWI checkpoint in the 4600 block of Oleander Drive.  The North Carolina Highway Patrol conducted a simultaneous checkpoint on Wrightsville Avenue. 

Seven people were charged with DWI.  One person was charged with driving after consuming alcohol under 21, and there were 23 charges of driving without a valid license.

One person was charged with a felony warrant. Another was charged with a misdemeanor warrant, and 35 other various charges were given out during the night.
