Flash flooding, rain expected through Sunday

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

More rain is expected across our area on Sunday, but some relief may be in sight for the start of the work week.

A flash flood watch remains in effect for the Upstate, western North Carolina. and northeast Georgia. A flood warning is in effect in parts of Greenwood and Union Counties in South Carolina. and parts of Henderson and Transylvania Counties in N.C. until 8 p.m. Sunday.

FOX Carolina meteorologist Andy Wood said that we could still see 1 to 2 inches of additional rain by the end of the weekend. He said more scattered downpours will come down on Sunday.

"Any heavy rain which develops heightens the flooding potential," Wood said.

Below are highlights from Wood's most recent forecast.

Danger on roads: Meteorologists urge you to continue to keep a close watch out for high water on roads and highways. Don't attempt to cross a road or street where water is crossing the road. Find a secondary or detour route to where you need to go. It's nearly impossible to determine how deep the water is and VERY EASY to under-estimate the power of the water flow. Also, seek higher ground if water levels are rising around your home or office.

Rain surplus: The totals continue to mount in what has been a very wet Spring and early part of Summer. Due to these lofty totals, there's a 100% chance of higher-than-normal humidity for July and August once the summer sun does its work in evaporating the high levels of soil moisture! All of the evaporation will lead to quite a bit of scattered thunderstorm activity around here for the foreseeable future.

Monday and the week ahead: A change in our weather pattern happens Monday and Tuesday as a mix of sun and clouds are anticipated along with slightly warmer temperatures in the middle to upper 80s.
