2nd anniversary of unsolved Pine Valley murder

Posted: Updated:

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - While many families spent Thursday cooking out and celebrating Independence Day, family members of Carol Ann Johnson are praying whoever killed her on this day two years ago, will be brought to justice.

Police say, Johnson was brutally stabbed several times in her home off Pine Valley Drive.

"It's been awful. It's a hole in our hearts. It's a missing piece in our family. She was so giving and loving. My cousins and I adored my aunt. My cousins and I just thought the world of her," said Melanie White, Johnson's niece.

Johnson grew up in Wilmington. After her parents died, she didn't have any relatives here. Most of her family members live in Charlotte or Columbia, South Carolina.

"When your family member is far away it makes it that much harder. You just feel like, I got to get there and figure everything out. To be that far away it was very difficult," said White.

According to relatives, new investigators took over the case in January and they keep them updated on where the investigation stands.

Although it's now been two years, loved ones still believe some day Johnson's killer will be arrested.

Johnson is buried in Wilmington next to her parents.
