WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Officers with the Wilmington Police Department made an arrest in a fatal hit-and-run incident that happened Saturday afternoon.
According to police, Freddie Lee Riley, 48, was charged with felony hit and run and misdemeanor death by vehicle.
Police say the vehicle Riley was allegedly driving hit Bryan Copeland, 22, on his moped near the intersection of Greenfield and S. 15th Street and then fled the scene.
Copeland died from the injuries sustained during the crash.
Officers say it was the help of several eye-witnesses of the accident that helped investigators find Riley.
"We appreciate the quick response of the community to help officers locate the suspect," said WPD Captain Jim Varrone. "Residents were key in helping us to do our job."
