Wilmington Sharks Press Release
Forest City, N.C. – The Wilmington Sharks came from behind on Sunday night to end the first half of the Coastal Plain League season with a 4-3 victory over the Forest City Owls.
The Owls struck first in the bottom of the second inning as Derrick Pitts picked up a one out double and eventually scored on a double off the bat of Nick McQuail to give the Owls a 1-0 lead. The Owls picked up another run in the bottom of the fifth inning as Blake Butler picked up a two out double, stole third and then scored on a pass ball to extend the Owls lead to 2-0.
Alex Freedman picked up a triple in the top of the sixth inning and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Cody Dolan to cut the lead to 2-1. The Owls answered in the bottom half of the sixth when John Kennedy was walked with the bases loaded to score McQuail to give the Owls a 3-1 advantage.
The Sharks answered in the seventh inning as Dylan Bosheers hit a RBI triple to score Zach MacAneney to make it 3-2 Owls. Bosheers then scored on a pass ball to even up the game at 3-3. TJ Losby grounded out with the bases loaded with only one out in top of the eighth inning to score Zach Stephens to give the Sharks a 4-3 lead and was enough for them to hold on and win.
Alex Freedman went 2-4 with a triple and a run scored for Wilmington. Derrick Pitts had a hot bat for the Owls as he went 3-3 with a double and a run scored. Will Shepley picked up his first win of the year out of the bullpen and Nick Green was credited with the save for the Sharks.
The Sharks return back home on Monday night to start the second half of the Coastal Plain League season against the Wilson Tobs with the first pitch at 7:05 p.m.
