Lineup, schedule announced for 'Live on the Green'

Thursday nights have become synonymous with free live concerts in downtown Nashville.

"Live on the Green" is gearing up for its fifth season beginning in August, and among the acts slated to perform are Z.Z. Ward, Erin McCarley and Robert Randolph and the Family Band.

"Live on the Green" takes place at Public Square Park in front of the Metro Courthouse.

Lightning 100 puts on the free concerts, which usually draw crowds of 4,000 to 6,000 people until last year, when a little band known as the Alabama Shakes played.

"We booked the Alabama Shakes in the spring of last year," said Tuned In Broadcasting President Lester Turner. "It was before they played an enormous show at Bonnaroo. It was before a lot of great things happened in their career. We thought they were a great band. We didn't know they were going to be an enormous band."

The Shakes drew a crowd of 10,000.

The concerts are free, but you can buy VIP tickets that give you access to food, drinks and, perhaps most importantly, VIP toilet facilities.

"Live on the Green" runs six consecutive Thursday nights, Aug. 8 through Sept. 12, with the following schedule:

Aug. 8 – Matt & Kim with ZZ Ward and Gin Wigmore
Aug. 15 – Matt Nathanson with Erin McCarley
Aug. 22 – Michael Franti and Spearhead with The Delta Saints and Luella and the Sun
Aug. 29 – Robert Randolph & The Family Band with Joe Robinson
Sept. 5 – Local Natives with Leagues and Lulu Mae
Sept. 12 – Moon Taxi with The Weeks and The Wild Feathers

VIP single tickets went on sale Friday, and organizers say additional artists will be announced in the coming weeks.
