NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A local musician is being remembered through dance this weekend.
The Forward Motion Dance Company is paying homage to the late Paco Strickland by performing choreographed routines to two of his original songs.
Strickland passed away in January after battling cancer for four years.
He was popular for his flamenco style of music.
Tracey Varga, Forward Motion Dance Company director, said that she had always been a fan of Strickland's music.
‘"I've always been inspired by his music as well as the fabulous flying flamenco brothers- what they've composed and what they've presented," said Varga.
She said Strickland's recent passing has made her want to produce a piece in his honor even more.
The dance company will perform its annual show two more times - Friday and Saturday nights at 8 p.m. at the Community Arts Center in downtown Wilmington.
