SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) – City leaders from Southport are expected to adopt an interim budget on Thursday.
By law, the city has to present its final budget draft by the end of June.
But officials say they are behind schedule.
Over the past year, they've replaced the town manager and two finance directors.
Mayor Pro-Tem, Mary Ellen Poole says a software update also slowed down the process.
"We changed our financial record keeping system," said Poole. "It caused our book keeping records to be behind. We don't have any problems but it took some time to catch up and that's why we have an interim budget."
The interim budget will last through July.
Southport leaders will have to draft a permanent budget by August 1.
