Cummings' fate in jury's hands

The same jury that took only minutes to convict Paul Cummings of murder is now struggling to reach a decision on his sentence.

Their decision could send the Wilmington man to prison, or to the death chamber.

Tuesday started with closing arguments from state prosecutors, then from the defense, before being turned over to the jury.

The decision in this sentencing hearing is either for life in prison without parole or the death penalty.

This same jury convicted Paul Cummings of first degree murder last week for the brutal stabbing of Jane Head back in October of 2002. Now the jurors must decide Cummings punishment for the crime.

Defense Attorney Rick Miller spent the afternoon trying to convince jurors Cummings isn't a monster, and that he doesn't deserves to die on death row.
