WHITEVILLE, NC (WECT) – Council members in Whiteville approved their budget Tuesday night, according to Mayor Terry Mann.
Mann said money from a two and a half cent tax increase will be used to unfreeze two police officer positions, a fire inspector, a recreational department employee, and a part time public works employee.
According to Mann, Whiteville has lost more than $100,000, in part because the city is no longer receiving fees from sweepstakes parlors.
Mann said part of the money from the tax increase will also go towards matching 50% of a park grant for $850,000. The grant will allow for the construction of two new baseball fields, Frisbee golf and a dog park.
