LAKE WACCAMAW, NC (WECT) - Toby Kasell has stepped down as head football coach at East Columbus high school and will take a position at Leland Middle School.
"I appreciate the opportunity to be the head coach at East Columbus high school. I wish future success to the football program," Kasell said Monday evening.
Kasell, who is a Leland resident, said he will become the head football and track coach at Leland Middle.
"I'm looking forward to teaching and coaching in the community I live in."
Prior to Kasell's arrival in 2010 the Gators had never won more than seven games in a season. This past year he led the team into the third round of the 1A playoffs were the Gators fell to Albemarle by a single point to finish the season at 9-5.
In his three years in Lake Waccamaw the Gators went 18-20 overall.
East Columbus athletic director Karl Bracey indicated the vacancy would be posted at some point this week.
