NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Operators tested Amateur Radios for 24 hours straight this weekend in Ogden Park.

The nationwide testing lasted from 2:00 p.m. Saturday until 2:00 p.m. Sunday.

Operators from different states tried contacting as many different locations as possible. They say it's important to know if they will be able to connect during an emergency.

In New Hanover County operators were able to make contact at stations in all states and even as far away as Japan.

There was also a special station set up for inexperienced radio-users who wanted to try talking on the radio and making contact with other stations.
