Police in Mooresville say preliminary autopsy results for a 15-year-old boy whose body was found in a wooded area has been completed.
According to police, the body of Aaron Michael Willis was found in a wooded area near Montibello Drive on Saturday evening around 5:03 p.m.
Officers say a preliminary autopsy for the teen was completed on Monday. Investigators say there was nothing in the physical autopsy that gave them a cause of death.
Investigators will have to wait for toxicology results in the case to learn more about the circumstances around his death.
In an emotional 911 call released on Monday, which WBTV is choosing not to air, Willis' father called emergency crews after finding the body of his son.
"I'm in the woods behind the house," he said in the call. "I found my son dead, me and my wife."
Operators had to call him back after the initial call was disconnected.
"Aaron was a Christian boy," his family released in a statement on Monday. "He attended Faith Baptist Church in Mooresville, N.C. Aaron was an athlete who loved to play basketball, baseball and lift weights at the local YMCA. Aaron always had a smile on his face and loved his mama. He was the perfect son and brother. He was also a wonderful grandson, nephew and most recently an uncle. He loved his nephew Mason."
Friends took to social media saying they are praying for this teen's family and that the 15-year-old was "clearly loved and taken too soon."
One girl saying it's all so much to process that is doesn't feel real.
WBTV spoke to one friend who grew up with the boy. Both were rising sophomores at Lake Norman High.
Avery Huffman says the teen was a great basketball player - something many friends said on social media- that this kid was either on the court or in the gym and always had a big smile on his face.
"When I met him in elementary school..the first day I met him he treated me like a brother. He was a very nice kid..it's very sad to see he is gone," Huffman said.
