Sharks need extra innings to beat Blowfish

Wilmington Sharks Press Release

Wilmington, N.C. – The Wilmington Sharks (9-8) return back to action at home on Thursday night as they welcome the Columbia Blowfish (12-8) to town for their first meeting since 2011.

The Sharks are coming off of a 2-1 victory over the Martinsville Mustangs on Tuesday night. The Sharks trailed 1-0 going into the bottom of the eighth until Zach Stephens ripped a line drive into left field to score Zach MacAneney. In the bottom of the ninth, Dylan Bosheers hit a high pop up with two outs that looked like it was going to send us to extras, but was misplayed by the Mustangs shortstop and hit the turf, scoring Sharks 2nd baseman Alex Freedman for the win.

JW Gora will be the starting pitcher for the Sharks on Thursday night with three starts on the season with three no decisions to keep his record at 0-0. Gora's best outing of the year was in a 3-2 extra inning win against the Fayetteville SwampDogs where he threw eight innings, allowing just two runs on five hits while striking out five.

Zach Stephens enters tonight's ballgame for the Sharks hitting .378 with eight RBIs on the year though his first nine games with Wilmington. Cody Dolan has also had a hot bat in the Sharks lineup as he has compiled 16 hits with six RBIs and is hitting .302.

The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Buck Hardee Field.
